Student Design Project
Uniwaka started life as a project for design students studying at Unitec in 2018. It caught the eye of Auckland Transport and won the "Matchmaker" category at their annual award ceremony.

Around the same time as the third student redesign of the project we were joined by an awesome team of computer science students who made the concept a reality.

Uniwaka is a free carpooling app that lets you connect with your Unitec whānau and share rides when it suits you.
Carpooling is a realistic and sustainable travel alternative to driving in a car-centric city like Auckland, where cycling or public transport is often not an easy option...
Uniwaka is simple to use, users only need to enter their arrival and departure times.
Drivers share their journey & how far off their route they are willing to go. Riders specify their pick-up point, and the app does the rest to help you find a match.
